Background Information

CHAT, or activity theory for short, is a conceptual framework that is useful to researchers investigating human activity. This group is particularly interested in its application to information systems research and learning environments (at all levels).

The first meeting was sponsored by Group SolutionS, a research group focussed on collaborative technology.  Group SolutionS has a number of active projects in that area, including using the GSS technology in grade school classrooms.  Hence the interest in activity theory.

CHAT Reading List

An initial reading list has been created, focussed on facilitation, collaboration and learning environments.  This is not a bibliography, but rather a representative list to get us started.  All papers in this list are held in hard copy at Group SolutionS.  Click here for a PDF copy.  Click here to download the endnotes database.
